Interior Pictures!
Visitors now enter to a real lobby/office area. Previously our front door put you right smack dab in front of the shop. The picture shows the inside of the main entry door that you've seen in the exterior pictures. You will usually find Jane at the desk behind the reception counter.
There is even a nice comfortable seating area for our guests!
A real luxury is our kitchen. As mentioned previously we had given up our previous break room a year ago to make more shop space. Now we have a real functioning kitchen! It is tucked behind a partial wall in the office/lobby area. The sofa from the previous picture is situated on the other side of the partial wall opposite the kitchen counter.
Yes, that is a plate of fresh-baked cookies on the counter. Our new Friday ritual is warm cookies!
We moved the shipping area out of the shop and into the new space just behind the office. The space is filled with the tools needed to pack a ship orders. Here it looks like Dawn is getting ready to ship a barrel to a customer. To the left out of the picture is the workstation where she does the invoicing and processes the internet orders.
Thursday, September 13 - Our project is getting down to the finishing details. There is still some roof and detail work on the exterior. Then a few bushes to give it that finishing touch. On the interior we have begun moving into the new space. Although it isn't quite finished we are now answering phones and using computers in the new addition. Orders are being shipped from our new shipping/receiving space. More interior pictures will come soon.
Tuesday, September 4 - Inside the building they have been taking care of electrical and computer wiring, lights, heating/cooling and other necessary but not necessarily interesting details. What we are MOST excited about is our kitchenette! We've never had a real lunchroom, and what little space we did have for a small table and microwave we gave up last year to make room for another workbench and assembly area. So with the new addition we reserved a small area for a kitchenette. We will have a stove, fridge, sink and microwave on the left and a countertop for eating on the left.
Thursday, August 9 - After a long dry summer of nearly two months without rain, it finally rained when the time came to pour the concrete! It slowed the progress a little, but between showers they managed to get the job done.
Thursday, August 9 - A sheet of plywood helps to keep rain from the roof drain from off of the newly poured concrete.
Friday, August 3 - Working on the metal sheeting on the exterior.
Thursday, August 2 - The main entry is looking good. The first step in putting up the siding is getting the small roof on the overhangs done. Once these are complete they can start on the walls.
Tuesday, July 31 - This is the new Shipping/Receiving area. After orders have been pulled or uppers have been completed this is where final packaging will take place and they will be readied for UPS to pick them up.
Tuesday, July 31- We are going green . . . green paint! The interior is being painted in three shades of green. You can also see in this picture that the grid for the dropped ceiling is in place. Details including wood trim are next up. Those are oak windowsills you see in the picture, they were just stained are are drying.
July 31 - The exterior is being prepared for metal siding. The exterior of the new portion will be dark gray in color to contrast with the lighter gray of the old building.
Contrasts! This is the same wall you see just two pictures below. The old window opening has been extended to the floor and turned into an open doorway between the new shipping area and the old office. The ugly gray block has been wrapped in new white siding. We are really starting to see a transformation!
Tuesday, July 17 - Progress can be seen in the office. Insulation has been installed and the drywall work is being done. The partial wall in this picture will become the reception counter when complete.
Monday, July 16 - Workmen are tearing out the wall below a window in the old exterior which will become a doorway into the new portion of the building.
Friday, July 6 - In the office portion of the addition the wiring for electric, phones, computers, etc has been run. The next step will be getting those rolls of insulation installed.
Friday, July 6 - Insulation is up in the warehouse portion of the addition. "Scrappy" our old fork lift will find a new home here. The fork lift is currently taking up valuable space on the shop floor so it will be good to have a new place for it.
Tuesday, July 3 - The exterior is coming along. Overhead door and entry doors are installed and the awnings are in place over the doorways. The brick has been completed and the sandstone ledge is installed. With the outside closed up work can begin inside!
Tuesday, June 26 - The brick mason is installing the brick face today. The front will be a partial brick front with siding above.
Tuesday, June 26 - The last few days we have had nice weather and they have made progress on the roof. Roof drains are installed and the flat roof membrane is being applied. You can also see that work started on the brick facing.
Thursday, June 21 - Windows and doors are installed. Today they are doing the roof.
Thursday, June 21 - Not much to see on the inside until the roof is done and it is securely enclosed. The short wall you see here will eventually become the reception counter where our guests will be greeted.
Tuesday, June 19 - It's been a busy day, just several hours later we have good idea of what the finished building will look like!
Tuesday, June 19 - A week since the last picture was posted and it's starting to look like a real building. All framed up and the roof sheeting on. This picture was taken at 8:45 this morning, those blue skies look like a good day for construction as they start putting up the sheets.
Tuesday, June 12 - End of day Tuesday and things are really starting to take shape. All the walls have been started and we can see the doors and windows.
Tuesday morning, June 12 - Twenty-four hours later they had made good progress on the framing.
Monday morning, June 11 - The framing started today and we see the first wall is going up.
On Friday, May 25 the concrete was poured for the new addition. Here you can see John on the left talking with the general contractor.
This is our somewhat nondescript building as it has looked as long as we have been here.
Here is the contractors artistic rendering of what the completed project will look like.
